Home Theatre Done Right

Off to the movies tonight.  My son has been bugging me to go with him to see The Hobbit.  Why I don't know since he could go with friends and he knows I just don't get into that series.  However, it's a bonding moment I guess.  If you can call it that since he stands about three feet away from me just in case someone sees him with his mom.

More and more, people are staying home and watching the latest films where they can control the sound, the noise level and afford the popcorn and other snacks.  You can even pause the film when you need  bathroom break.  Still you lose that theatre experience.

With this look though I think I could live without it. Ralph - he really knows how to live.

It's Snowing Again... Sigh

Just a reminder to myself that Winter can be beautiful.  Looks like I've got a lot more winter to get through so I've got to think positive.

Not So Golden This Year

Maybe I'm becoming jaded, but I really wasn't impressed with the gowns at last night's Golden Globes.  Well - except for these two...

The always lovely Kate Beckinsale

Michelle Docker - very romantic

Back Again...

Well I'm back in action.  My News Years Resolution was to stick to a carefully thought out budget.  But you know what they say about best laid plans.  I never dreamed one cold day could wipe out so many plans.  It was truly expensive.  So to make myself feel better I'm indulging in a fantasy shopping trip.

New Meaning to Winter Wonderland

Forgive my slow return to the world of blogging.  This past "deep freeze" we experienced wreaked havoc with my life.  Frozen pipes, wonky furnace, frozen car battery and I've already had enough of winter.  The budget for the year for is blown - my get away vacation if looking pretty dim now - and now we're into rain and melting ice and snow - which also means flooding.  Winter can be beautiful but not when you're bundled up like Nanook of the North and trying to keep from freezing in your own home.  This week I truly appreciated those who were without hydro for extended periods of time.  One day did enough damage that my entire week was a mess.

I'll get back on line when I've unthawed.  My spirits as much as anything else at this point.

Dreaming of summer already

It's back to work for me today and I'm already dreaming about a summer vacation.  Casual comfy summer days seem so far away right now when you're digging out the driveway and scraping off the car.

ahhh Tiffany's

For those days when you got the mean red's....  Wouldn't you love one of these little blue boxes and the little treasure they have inside.  A girl can dream can't she.

When I dream - I dream big.

A Little Luxury

I'm trying to sort out a better budget this year so I'm doing my best to reign myself in, sort through what I have and see what I really need and want.  I've ignored this for the last few years and now I'm beginning to feel the results of it.  So luxury items are currently off the list.  I need a fix somewhere so for the next little while this will be my way of indulging.  Skies the limit when you do it this way.  I highly recommend it for getting it out of your system.

A Worthwhile Renovation

I've often considered how lovely it would be to take a home and transform it into it's original splendor and glory.  And then I think about the cost and headaches and figure - not for me.  Here is an example of just what I'm talking about.  Villa Maria in the Hamptons is just stunning considering it was once inhabited as a old age home.  The transformation is beautiful.  For a cool $50 million this too could be yours.  Only in my dreams.

A Serene spot if ever there was one

I fell in love with this house previewed in Architectural Digest.  My favourite magazine.  The lifestyles of the rich and famous at it's finest.

Welcome 2014

This holiday I've deliberately kept my activities to a minimum.  Doing nothing was the main item on my to do list.  We've had a rough two years and I felt we needed some serious downtime.  I puttered about in my pj's and cleaned out closets, cupboards and took care of all the little things I never have time for. Today for example, watching the Rose Bowl parade, a walk along a trail with my golden retriever - she loved it.  Not so much the bath afterwards but getting her groomed up takes time and right now I have the time.  This year is going to be about slowing down, relaxing and enjoying the little things in life more.  In essence - this year is going to be all about me.  Whatever strikes my fancy.  At least that's the plan.  I hope to be able to stick with it.

Some imagery to inspire me for 2014.

A trip to New York in the Spring would be nice.

My son has decided that he wants a new look - something more classic.

The drama of black and white

and more inside black and white glamour.

Some serious skin repair - this winter is taking it's toll.
Some new luggage.

Definitely more beauty sleep.

And a serious bathroom cleanout.  I have no idea how old some of my cosmetics are.  Not to mention that some of my towels are at least ten years old.

And not so inspiring a garage cleanout - removal of the wheel chair ramp, clear out the basement and a storage area that houses 35 years worth of stuff from my parents.  Where to begin on that one.... for now - later - in the words of Scarlett O'Hara - "After all tomorrow is another day".

Happy New Year Everyone

Here's to a serene and happy 2014.  May everyone have the opportunity to find their inner peace and happiness this year.

Moet - my favourite champagne

It's a New Year for me and hopefully an easier year than the past two have been.  I've decided to turn my focus on relaxing and enjoying myself this new year.  With the passing of both parents in the last two years moving on has been difficult and a bit scary as I miss they're presence in my life daily.  However, neither would want me to grieve for them so it's time to turn a corner and move on.  A New Year seems like a good time for just that.

So here's to a Serene 2014.
