Well it's finally here...
Took me awhile but I finally got moving on my Christmas activities. Haven't even starting shopping yet but at least the tree is up and the house decorated. After tomorrow I'm starting two weeks of holidays and I so need that time to get organized and to relax.
I thought I would share with you the Murino Glass Santa ornament that I purchased in Venice this year. Every year we had a Coca Cola Santa ornament that we got when we were kids and we'd put it on the tree. The lights couldn't go on until Santa was there. We seemed to have misplaced him in the many moves we've had before my parents died so spotting this little guy in Venice seemed appropriate.
If I don't get a chance .... Merry Christmas to all.

The American Thanksgiving - another count down to Christmas
It's that time of year for my American friends and I'm wishing them a great holiday weekend. Take it easy out there - I hear the weather doesn't plan on cooperating.

Signing Off for the Season
We've had a rough year. My dad's health has deteriorated yet again. As such we've been walking a tightrope trying to find a balance this season. It hasn't been easy and his health has reached the point where we need round the clock care and it takes up a lot of my time as the main caregiver. So, sadly this blog has suffered and I will no longer be able to continue until we've seen this thing through.
My best wishes to all those I've been in touch with this and anyone else reading this blog. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and will continue to have a wonderful New Year. Hopefully 2013 will be a time a great joy and help to heal a lot of the wounds that we've all had to deal with this year.

A Strange Reaction
I rarely drink except for the odd glass of wine or mixed drink, sometimes a small apertif after dinner, but this weekend something strange happened. A few sips from a glass of wine and my face turned red and it felt like my face was on fire. I needed ice to cool myself down and eventually took an allergy pill we keep on hand for my niece who is allergic to our cat. I thought it was just a bad reaction to that type of wine - except I had been drinking that wine in the past with no reaction. Then the next evening I decided to try a mixed drink - same reaction. Not good. What a strange reaction.
To all my Canadian friends out there.
Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Canada Day
It's a long weekend for us and fireworks are at the forefront tonight. I can actually view them from my front porch so I'm planning on relaxing with a glass of wine, bug spray and prepare to be impressed.
Happy Canada Day!

First Year for A Serene Life For Me
Today is bitter sweet for me. It's been one year since I started this blog purely out of curiousity to see if it was something I would like. I enjoyed it and found a spot that would reflect who I am or would like to be if the world would just cooperate.... At any rate, a calm, serene place where I could escape to relax and touch base with the inner me. As it turned out this year was one that dramatically change the face of my life in so many ways both good and bad.

There have been so many changes that I wouldn't know where to start so I won't. Instead I'll just say that it's been an interesting year that's taught me a lot.
Today is also Father's Day and since it may be the last one I have with my father I'm planning on spending as much time with him as possible for the next while.
To continue - that is the question. I'll leave that up to you.

American Thanksgiving & Camille Styles
Thanksgiving is over here in Canada, but the American Thanksgiving in two weeks is ramping up. That makes it a football weekend which Canadians get to enjoy as well but without all the turkey.
I love checking out the American Thanksgiving articles though since it gives me ideas for next year. After viewing this video from Camille Styles, I've got a whole list for next year. Check it out.

Thanksgiving Prep
So this year it's been decided that I will host the traditional family Thanksgiving Dinner instead of my sister. Her place is so much bigger than mine and more comfortable, so it's always been there. This plan might change, but if it doesn't I better get cracking and see what needs to be done. I've begun quizzing everyone I know and doing my online research. Thanks to the Pottery Barn people for their step-by-step guidelines.

Beach Envy
I wish I’d gone to the beach…
The weather this long weekend has been really hot. I had a birthday party to go to yesterday so I didn’t make any plans for the weekend but today would be the perfect beach day. Too much traffic and it would take too long, otherwise I would go, but I grew up on a beach and miss it so much sometimes.
