A Ruthless Weeding Out

I'm beginning a ruthless weeding out of my life.  Inspired by Life in Aventi Cup - Out with the old, I decided that a spring cleaning wasn't enough for my house.  I've been feeling pretty hemmed in lately.  Did I mention my house is the size of a shoe box?  Well it is and it's time to do something I've wanted to do for so long.  I don't want anything in my life that I don't love or need.  So it's back to basics.

This will be tough I've discovered the hard way.  The first round through my closet left me very little.  Pretty much one of everything and almost entirely black and white.

In other words, I need a wardrobe update very badly when that's all I can find.  There were a couple of other items but upon closer inspection, the black blazer has lost a button (which I can't find), and the navy blue pant suit is heading to the dry cleaners.

Inspiration is desperately needed since a new spring wardrobe was not on the budget at all.

Here is the reason I need a new wardrobe - this is what I have found myself left with.

Classic Ralph Lauren

It's a classic Ralph Lauren kind of day for me today as I wrap presents and prepare for the holidays.  One more week to go and I'm on holidays.  It's been a rough year so this holiday is all about relaxing, spending time with family and friends.  I want to savour every moment of it because we haven't had a proper Christmas for the last two years.  So this year, it's all about appreciating what we have and feeling the love.

Just Because

I need some luxury in my life right now.  Indulgence is key.  Santa - if you're looking.  Just a few hints...

David Yurman

Silver or gold - I'm not picky

Dining with the French doors open - luxury

A tan, a French manicure, diamonds - Victoria Beckham has it figured out.

White satin men's style pajamas - I love this look and can never find it.

Seriously love this bag.

Hermes - and in my favourite current colour scheme - shades of grey

Hermes black sandals

Beautiful nature prints

Wardrobe update - Classic White Shorts

You can never go wrong with a great fitting pair of classic white shorts.  So once again this year I'm on the lookout for the perfect pair and quickly discovering that looking for white shorts this early with pasty white legs is not a good idea.  But since the nicer weather is upon us it`s definately time to start looking into self-tanners or something.  Anyone who has a great self-tanning product they would recommend let me know.  I`m talking glow in the dark white legs so keep that in mind.

Wardrobe Classic - Nautical Striped Tee

This is a classic that is again surprisingly hard to find the perfect fit...

I’m on the look out for the perfect blue striped t-shirt .  This look on Gisele is what I’m going for this summer, but I just can’t seem to find the one.  Maybe I’ll just call up my good friend Gisele and ask her if she can remember the label.  Maybe not.

A little Ralph Lauren background never hurts either.

A Good Transition Colour

With the warmer weather we've been having lately but still a bit on the chilly side it's time for transition looks.  It feels like spring but is it really?  One of my favourite looks around this time of year is working with a soft grey.

Wardrobe Update - White canvas running shoes

It's that time of year again and I'm on the lookout for my new summer sneakers.  I go through one pair every summer season.  They're my favourite weekend go to shoes and I literally run them into the ground each summer.  Luckily they're usually cheap.  Some classics never go out of style.

Wardrobe Updates - Riding Boots

This dates back to my riding days, but Riding Boots are a comfortable heel size for both dressy as well as slugging through snow covered sidewalks.  Yes I'm finally accepting the fact that winter is coming and could hit any day now based upon this weekend.

Once more I've learned something new.  The traditional riding boot was copied from the Duke of Wellington who naturally became very popular after the defeat of Napoleon.  People began copying his style and eventually this included woman.  I'm definitely loving this new feature of Ralph Lauren's.  It fits in with my useless trivia side.  I can now pass this on to you.

I should add for the record that I never looked this stylish during my riding days.

Wardrobe Updates - Camel Blazer

This is one blazer I have yet to find that really fits the look I want.  There are so many shades of camel out there so if you want a blazer, slacks, turtleneck to match you have to buy them from the same line.  I have a number of camel pieces but they can’t be worn together.

Wardrobe Updates - Classic Tailored White Cotton Shirt

The perfect white cotton shirt is hard to find but it can be worn with almost anything.

One of the sexiest ways I’ve ever seen to wear a classic white shirt.  Unsure what to wear up to the last second, she just grabbed a dress shirt from her husband’s closet, paired it with a lavender satin Vera Wang skirt and headed off to the Oscars completely comfortable and confident.  Now that’s style.

Black Velvet

This was one of my favourite ads – every woman should get to wear black velvet and diamonds at some point in her life.

Wardrobe Updates: Python Print Pumps

Like everything else I love they’re probably out of stock now, but I love this look of the python with the black trim.  So sexy and sophisticated.  Tonight is movie night and these shoes has inspired me to view one of my favourite caper movies.  "The Thomas Crown Affair" - either one will do, but tonight I think we'll go with the newer version.

An American heist film directed by John McTiernan. The film, starring Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo and Denis Leary, is a remake of the 1968 film of the same name.  The film's success prompted plans for a sequel starring Brosnan. In January 2007, it was reported that the sequel was in the works.  However, no such sequel has been produced.

Rene Russo and Pearce Brosnan in "The Thomas Crown Affair"

This is one of the sexiest films for both of these actor.  Their both complete knock outs and Rene has never looked more beautiful.  I'd love her wardrobe from this film and would love to look half as good as she does in her nude scenes.  She was 45 when she filmed those scenes.  Something to aspire to.
